Recovery assessments of services
Mary O'Hagan undertakes recovery assessments – a unique approach to evaluation that tells the service what the service is doing well and not so well in implementing the recovery approach.
Recovery assessments are based on Mary’s systemic recovery framework which includes high level standards to assess: • fundamental beliefs and attitudes • the purpose and values of services • the people involved in services • the key cultural elements of services • the range of services that need to be provided • inter-agency and inter-sector collaboration • the systemic supports needed.
Mary talks to a sample of all the stakeholders, reads documents and observes what is happening over two to five days (depending on the size of the service).
Clients receive a recovery assessment report that details: • What the service is doing well • What it is not doing so well • Suggestions for improvements
Clients also receive a comprehensive paper describing all aspects of Mary’s systemic recovery framework with examples of good practice and the evidence.
Mary is also available to advise on the implementation of the improvements the services decides to make.
She has completed recovery assessments in Britain and will be doing one in the Netherlands in December 2008.
